The craft

From thread to saree

  1. 01

    Dyeing the threads

Before anything is woven, bundles of thread are tied and dyed, so the pattern is already in the yarn.

  2. 02

    Weaving the body

On the loom the dyed threads line up, row by row, and the diamonds appear.

  3. 03

    The zari border

Metallic zari thread is woven along the edges to frame the saree.

  4. 04

    The pallu

The decorated end that falls over the shoulder, where the pattern is at its richest.

Our family

Our Story

SS Handlooms is named after our father, Seetha Srisailam. Our family has woven in Pochampally for many generations. Our father learned the craft at home from his parents, Seetha Muthyalu and Seetha Laxminarsamma, and the family loom has kept working ever since.
